Joining the tech world

As if facebook, twittering, IM, texting and my space are not a distraction enough in our world, we decided to finally jump on the blog bandwagon with the intention of sharing our experiences overseas with family and friends and to stay connected with everyone. As most of you now know, Wes and I just took a job in Abu Dhabi, which is the capital of the U.A.E. For a little geography lesson, Abu Dhabi is located in the Middle East along the Persian Gulf coast and is surrounded by water so it is basically a large island. It borders Saudi Arabia, Oman and is near Qatar. It is close to Dubai, but is a little larger. It is very hot and hardly ever rains so we will miss our seasons in Kansas. Our school is called the American International School of Abu Dhabi and is located near the U.S. embassy. It is an English speaking school that serves K-12th graders. Our kids will be very diverse; we have heard about 60% are Western-European, Australian, Canadian or American and the remainder come from 50 other countries around the world. I will teach 2nd grade, and Wes upper level math at the high school building. We will be on the same campus, so we will get to carpool to work =) We will have a 2 bed and 2 bath apartment about 20 minutes from the school with provided transportation. We will be moving out there on August 13th. The time change is 9 hours ahead from Central time, so it will be a bit of an adjustment. We are excited for our new school and for how we can be used to serve the people there. Here is the link to our new school
